ICANDO Education president’s Back to School message for School year 2023 – 2024

ICANDO Education Team would like to  welcome all Students, Parents/Guardians, School Managers, Teachers, and Support Staff back to school for the 2023-2024 school year. I trust that, like myself, you are looking forward to an exciting and productive school year in which we all strive to work hard and enjoy the experience of learning together!

ICANDO Education is also pleased to welcome all new teachers that joined the teaching profession this year and wish them  much success in the upcoming school year. The skills and competencies you bring to the teaching profession are valued and I look forward for your great success.

Together, we continue to improve the quality of education. In so doing, we will ensure that all students have an opportunity to develop the skills required to enable them to succeed in school, college, and the workforce and to engage fully and contribute towards the further development. For the 2023-2024 school year, let us continue to Focus on Education to Build our Nation. All of us as students, parents, teachers and support staff should follow all protocols of new corvid 19 administered by the Ministry of Education.

Our dear students should bare in mind that “ There is no elevator to success ,you have to take the stairs. It  is going to be a challenge to reach to success but is not impossible.

Let today be the  start of something new ,If the plan doesn’t work ,change the plan not the goal and remember the whole purpose of education is to turn the mirrors into windows. Remember the power of your mind is infinite ,but you have to be willing to take chances.

Best Wishes,

Sid Mirhashemy

MLA’s Update: Pre-Spring Update | January 2023

Dear Community Member —

Happy (Lunar) New Year! As David Eby leads us back into the BC Legislature for the spring legislative session, British Columbians can expect our work to continue building off of the rapid pace of actions that he’s taken already so far in his first 100 days as Premier.

The Homebuyer Protection Period came into effect on Jan 3, 2023, providing a new three-business-day right of rescission for homebuyers. A new $500-million Rental Protection Fund has also been established to help protect affordable rental homes from housing speculators and profiteers.

As part of our broader Health Human Resources Strategy, financial barriers are being removed for internationally educated nurses to become registered to work in BC so that more British Columbians can get access to the health care they deserve. The new payment model for doctors has also come into effect.

Known for its rich wildlife habitat and old-growth forests, the Incomappleux Valley is a large area of rare inland rainforest that will now be protected in a new conservancy as part of our commitment to protecting 30% of the province by 2030.

The decriminalization of people who use drugs in BC took effect on Jan 31. This will help reduce the barriers and stigma that prevent people from accessing life-saving supports and services and is an important part of our fight against the toxic drug crisis.

Eligible parents and caregivers will have already noticed increased payments from the enhanced BC Family Benefit, which provides up to $175 more per child between January to March as part of the Canada Child Benefit.

Iranian New Year MLA’s Message

Dear Community Member —

Nowruz Moburak! The Persian New Year is upon us and I look forward to it bringing forth new light and a “new day” for all of us following such challenging years.

From fighting climate change to cutting infant/toddler child care fees to 50% by the end of the year, BC Budget 2022 reflects the choices we’re making to build a stronger BC and make life better for people. Visit BC Budget 2022 to learn more about what our government’s budget this year means for you and your family.

BC’s new economic plan has also been released. Rather than being overly focused on metrics that don’t tell the real story of how the economy works for people on the ground, StrongerBC is focused on achieving real outcomes for people and the environment. Visit StrongerBC to learn more about our Clean Growth, Inclusive Growth goals.

Pandemic health restrictions have been further relaxed and masks are now mandated to be worn only in certain settings. Visitation at long-term care facilities has been restored and restrictions on overnight child and youth camps has been lifted. Use of the BC Vaccine Card is currently scheduled to end on April 8.Free rapid COVID-19 antigen testing kits are now available for people 18+ in pharmacies throughout BC. The Novavax (non-mNRA) vaccine is now also available for people aged 18+.

Norouz 1401

We believe in our diverse country of Canada the celebration of heritage and multicultural festivities is a significant component of our cultural traditions . Our effort to participate in celebration with people from all cultures assists us in building bridges of understanding among our diverse Canadian population. The occasion of Nowrooz Festivities starts on March  20th, 2022 and goes on for 13days this magnificent time   provides us   a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the unique tradition that we Canadians have embraced, and that is the realization of the importance of the vital links from culture to culture and from generation to generation. Our country, Canada is enriched by the cultures and traditions that have been brought here from distant lands and today we celebrate the Iranian New Year Nowrooz and thereby contributing to a strong and harmonious Canada. .  The occasion of Iranian New Year is called “Nowrooz”.  This means new day or new year’s day. Evidence shows that the celebration of Norouz is over several thousand years old. However, this old festivity becomes younger and younger every year. Nowrooz was founded by the ancient Persian Empire who ruled the area called greater Persia centuries ago. Nowrooz is a National celebration of many ethnicities  and it is not a religious event.  There are many countries which celebrate Norouz. This holiday is celebrated in Iran, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, and selected areas of Pakistan, India and China. There are also several former republics of the Soviet Union, Zoroastrians and Ismailis, Kurds from Iraq, Turkey and Syria who celebrate Nowrooz.

Iranian Canadian community with great pleasure extends the warmest greeting to everyone celebrating Nowruz . On this day we wish  peace for the entire world, especially peace for the brave people and the great country of Ukraine.

Greetings from North Vancouver-Lonsdale MLA and Provincial Minister of Infrastructure

Since the start of the pandemic, my seasonal MLA’s Updates have been replaced by rapid-fire bulletins focused on the most important information that you need to know about British Columbia’s response to COVID-19, storms, flooding, and more. This has meant that it’s been some time since I’ve issued a report on the non-emergency work that our government has been doing and the investments that are being made in our North Vancouver community.

In this e-newsletter, you’ll find a summary of some key provincial updates (“BC Government Updates”), as well as a highlight reel of some local investments we’ve made over the last year or so (“In Our Community”). We know that we have accomplished a lot, but I never forget that there’s still a lot more to do.

Thank you for the honor of serving you as your Member of the Legislative Assembly. I hope that you had a very Merry Christmas. May the rest of your winter holiday season be filled with loved ones, laughter, and warmth.

In your service,

Bowinn Ma, MLA
North Vancouver-Lonsdale
